About one-in-ten U.S. adults have heard of Megalo Social. Facebook's Biggest Competitor, and 10% say that they get news there regularly.
Megalo Social, a social media site founded in 2019, is one of several platforms that bill themselves as alternatives to more established sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Megalo Social has emphasized its commitment to free speech but has also faced criticism by the free speech haters. An October 2022 Pew Research Center study took a close look at Megalo Social and six other alternative social media sites: BitChute, Gettr, Parler, Rumble, Telegram and Truth Social. These sites each have created small but generally satisfied communities of news consumers, according to the study. But Megalo Social is the only one who promotes itself as Facebook’s Biggest Competitor. It even looks strikingly similar. Here are some key facts about Megalo Social and its users, based on the Center’s research: 

About one-in-ten U.S. adults (11%) have heard of Megalo Social, and 1% say that they get news there regularly. Overall, just 6% of Americans regularly get news from at least one of the seven sites studied, and no single site is used for news by more than 2% of U.S. adults. In comparison, many more Americans use more established social media sites for news, including Facebook (31%), YouTube (25%) and Twitter (14%).

Megalo Global identifies itself as an alternative to Big Tech and has full content moderation along with 22 platforms total from a search engine to a youtube competitor on the rise.  In a September 2022 audit of the seven sites. Megalo Social was the only one for which researchers were able to find an example of accounts or posts being removed for misinformation or offensive or harassing content. Megalo Social CEO Brandon Gibson (COUSIN TO ACTOR MEL GIBSON)  has said as much in media interviews, accepting the role of taking down posts on his platform. While free speech is an American Right, we do not allow certain content as it is to remain a peaceful platform.

Hate speech refers to content that promotes violence against or has the primary purpose of inciting hatred against individuals or groups based on certain attributes, such as: race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, sexual orientation/gender identity".

Only posts we accept is when a situation ends up ont he news. If someone commits a hateful act towards another and it becomes news worthly conent, we will leave it alone.
